Food Study Update: Deadline Dec 31 Enter the Survey to Win VeggieRX Bucks Join Focus Groups
Updated: 9 hours ago
More than 1,000 people have started the food study survey—but only about 25% have completed it.
Now that the study is moving into its focus group interview stage, completing the survey is more important than ever. Participants who finish by Dec. 31 can enter the raffle for VeggieRX Bucks and indicate their interest in future study opportunities, including focus groups.
If you started the survey but did not reach the end, now is the time to finish.

Focus groups are happening now!
The study is beginning small-group conversations with selected participants to learn more about their everyday experiences with food.
Focus groups allow people to explain the stories behind their survey responses—where they shop, what they cook, how cost affects their choices, how culture and family shape meals, and what makes accessing fresh food easier or harder.
Participants may discuss:
Where they shop for food
How food prices affect their choices
Cultural and family food traditions
Access to fruits, vegetables, and familiar ingredients
Transportation and neighborhood food access
Programs or resources that help their households
Changes that could make healthy food easier to access and use
There are no right or wrong answers. The goal is to better understand how food choices happen in real life.
Dr. Andrew will conduct the interviews, with sessions offered both by Zoom and in person. Selected participants will receive information about when and how to participate.
Those who are selected and complete a focus group will receive a digital gift card as a thank-you for their time and perspective.
To be considered, participants must first complete the survey and indicate their interest in future study opportunities.

VeggieRX Bucks are already reaching participants
The study has already distributed more than $500 in VeggieRX Bucks to survey participants.
VeggieRX Bucks help people purchase fresh food at participating locations such as farmers markets, connecting the research with a practical benefit for local households.
At the end of the survey, participants can enter the VeggieRX Bucks raffle. That is another reason to make sure you reach the final page and submit the full survey.
Raffle Winner Story: "I received the coupon and put it to good use today. Was pleasantly surprised how easy the purchase process was at the Evergreen farmers market. Made a good meal that I shared with my family with today."

We still need more voices
A strong food study should reflect the diversity of Santa Clara County. Right now, several communities are underrepresented among completed surveys.
We especially want to hear from:
Men
Young adults ages 18–24
Adults ages 65 and older
Afro-Caribbean and Latinx communities
People from African immigrant communities
South County residents, including Gilroy and Morgan Hill
West Santa Clara County residents, including Palo Alto, Los Altos, Cupertino, and Saratoga
These communities may experience food access very differently—from transportation and grocery options to cultural ingredients, household responsibilities, affordability, and health priorities.
Without their participation, the study could miss important parts of the county's food story.
Already completed the survey? Share it.
If you have already participated, you can still help by sending the survey to someone whose voice should be included.
You can share this message by text, email, or with your community:
I’m sharing this food study because they need more voices from our community. Complete the survey by Dec. 31 to enter a raffle for VeggieRX Bucks and indicate your interest in future focus group interviews. Selected focus group participants will receive a digital gift card. Make sure you complete the full survey so your response counts.
Consider sharing it with friends, family members, college students, elders, cultural organizations, faith communities, neighborhood groups, and community networks throughout Santa Clara County.

What to do before Dec. 31
There are three important steps:
1. Finish the survey. If you started but stopped before the end, return and submit your completed response.
2. Enter the VeggieRX Bucks raffle. The raffle opportunity appears at the end of the survey.
3. Indicate your interest in future study opportunities. If you would like to be considered for a focus group or another phase of the study, complete that section before submitting.
More than 1,000 people have already started the survey. Now we need more of those voices to make it all the way through.
Complete the survey by Dec. 31—and share it with someone whose experience with food should be part of the conversation.
