BHM has grown from a celebration of history to a celebration of life for all who seek to dig deep into the celebratory month. We decided to add some gardening to the menu!
CONNECT WITH YOUR ROOTS was a series of garden tours, workshops and lectures hosted by black urban agriculturalists in the Silicon Valley, CA in the month of February 2023. These series of events were designed to introduce black folk to a new kind of therapy - garden therapy!
You might think cold and dreary February may not be the ideal time to introduce a newbie to a garden (most gardens are "resting" in Feb. and there is little to harvest and not much to bloom). However, Late February is a good time to plant many seeds that will sprout in the spring. For gardens and humans, February is a time to of reflection, transformation, contemplation and planning and garden work is a great activator of that thinking process
We thank you for those of you who came out to celebrate and heal int he garden. We will likely host another series next year!
